Daryl Sherman: "An Evening with Daryl Sherman"

Daryl Sherman:
Equally at home in the world of jazz and cabaret, singer/pianist Daryl Sherman has been a longtime sparkling mainstay of Manhattan nightlife. She can play, improvise, sing and swing with the best of them. Just as special is her tantalizing mix of standards, forgotten gems and originals - all strongly conveying the essence of each lyric as if she had personally lived it.

For her debut at Martinis Above Fourth, Daryl is joined by stellar bassist Rob Thorsen, and they will serve up a potpourri from master wordsmiths Johnny Mercer, Cole Porter, Ira Gershwin, Larry Hart, Oscar Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Jimmy Webb and songs from Daryl''s new CD Lost In A Crowded Place. Someone once said "without the lyricists we''d all be hummers." Daryl Sherman would rather take a chance feeling "bewitched, bothered and bewildered!"

"No veteran singer inhabits the full range of American Popular Song repertoire quite like the irreplaceable Sherman. She has an authenticity and a confidence that come with experience. A gently swinging pianist as well, precious few possess her abundant versatility, style and charm"- Steve Futterman, The New Yorker

"Voice like honeysuckle, signature jazz sound, a stylistic compendium of Billie Holiday, Mildred Bailey and Blossom Dearie." - Stephen Holden, New York Times

"An impish swing oriented singer- pianist Daryl Sherman digs deeper into the archives than most of her peers. Her blend of anecdotes and astute musicianship yielded the intimacy of a tete a tete, the audience hanging on every word." - Clive Davis, The Times (London)

"Effervescent and madly talented Daryl Sherman creates moods that turn each song into a miniature painting. She cares about quality of lyrics, her delivery ranges from kittenish pounce to soulful passion and she plays exquisite piano. She sees the world around her with humor, optimism and even a touch of lasciviousness." - Rex Reed, New York Observer

"Taste, style, charm, connection to material, playing, good as it gets!" - Michael Feinstein

"A first rate singer/musician." - Artie Shaw
